Falkirk Science Festival: Memento (15)

The cult 90s thriller directed by Christopher Nolan, and powered by the notion of how perception and memory shape identity. Presented on 35mm with an introduction by Dr Stephen Kelly on memory, as part of Falkirk Science Festival.

This taut and ingenious noir follows Leonard Shelby (Guy Pearce) on his quest to avenge the brutal killing of his wife. Hindered by a rare kind of memory loss which leaves him unable to recall anything for more than a few minutes, Leonard is repeatedly forced to re-navigate all that he learns, using photos, notes and even tattoos on his body to help piece together a dangerous jigsaw.

Dr Kelly’s talk will split memory into its different types and examine how it works best and when it goes wrong. Your memory will be tested!

“Christopher Nolan's film is a meditative study of the duplicitous nature of memory.” Slant Magazine

“Grade A work from all concerned, especially Pearce, but in the end this is Nolan's film. And he delivers, with a vengeance.” Time Out

“’Memento’ doesn't just draw you into a dramatic mystery, it makes you aware of human mystery. And that's food for thought and entertainment.” Washington Post
