Sound of Music (U)

Tickets from £5.40
Joins us at the Hippodrome for this holiday favourite and sing along to one of the most popular movie musicals of all time.

This film version of Rodgers and Hammerstein musical has it all: romance, spectacular scenery, religion, family drama, comedy and adventure. No wonder it won five Oscars and the hearts of generations of film goers ever since its release in 1965. The story has its origins in the memoir of Maria von Trapp, a governess in Austria on the eve of the Second World War. Maria is training to be a nun, but falls in love with the children in her care, and their widowed father... meanwhile the dark clouds of the War loom on the horizon.

Packed with popular songs including 'Edelweiss', 'My Favourite Things', 'Climb Ev'ry Mountain', 'Do-Re-Mi' and, of course, the title song, this monumental hit never fails to warm the soul and stir the emotions.

Dir. Robert Wise / US / 1965 / 2h 52m
With: Julie Andrews, Christopher Plummer, Eleanor Parker
