The Amber Light (12A)

In this journey through lesser-appreciated parts of Scottish whisky culture, we follow spirits writer Dave Broom on his quest to gain a deeper understanding of his national drink. While whisky has never been as popular, it is often seen in the context of being a brand which sits outside people’s lives and as a drink which speaks of the past rather than engaged with a dynamic present.

Rather than being yet another ‘how whisky is made’ film, it traces Dave’s journey back to the roots of whisky and through meetings with whisky makers, musicians (Alasdair Roberts, Rachel Newton, James Yorkston, King Creosote) and writers (Alasdair Gray, Ian Rankin) shows how it has always been an integral part of Scottish culture.

“A joy of a film that captures the real essence of whisky in Scotland in all its chaos and fun.”
– Rachel McCormack, author, Chasing the Dram

We are pleased that audiences at this screening will be offered tastings from the Talisker and Lagavulin distilleries courtesy of Diageo and Dartmouth Films (over 18s only).
