The Metropolitan Opera (encore) Verdi's Aida

Superstar soprano Anna Netrebko made her Met role debut as Aida in this thirtieth-anniversary revival of Sonja Frisell's stunning production from the 18/19 Met Opera season. Verdi's drama is set in Ancient Egypt, where the Ethiopian Aida lives a life of slavery. She and the Egyptian warrior Radams (Aleksandrs Antonenko) have fallen in love, although the princess Amneris (Anita Rachvelishvili) is a rival for Radams affections. Then, when Radams goes into battle, he unwittingly captures Aidas father as a prisoner of war. As Aida and Radams face impossible choices between patriotism, passion, and paternal bonds, the stage is set for tragedy. With heart-stopping music and spectacular set pieces, including the famous Triumphal March, Verdi's towering masterpiece concludes the Hippodrome's Met Opera summer season with a bang.

2hr 55min (incl. interval) / Nicola Luisotti conducts.
