These cenotaphs are the empty tombs of dead heroes, memorials not only to those who paid the ultimate sacrifice, but also to those who served.  They echo the history of the 20th century and its succession of conflicts and the way in which we show our appreciation. Their form and location reflect the culture of the day and created reflective works of art throughout the district.
