A friendly guide from the team at Falkirk Council will take you on a tour around the inside of the Hippodrome, Scotland’s oldest purpose-built cinema (established 1912). You will learn about local entrepreneur Louis Dickson - the man with the vision to open Scotland’s first picture palace - his architect Matthew Steele, and the unique building they created together. Hear the fascinating story of this remarkable venue, discover some of its quirky mysteries and get behind-the-scenes with an exclusive opportunity to visit the projection box.
The tour includes a 15 minute film about the magnificent restoration undertaken to restore the Hippodrome to its pre-Art Deco glory, and time for questions too.
Access: please note the balcony and projection box are accessible only by stairs, stairs to the latter are very steep and narrow.
The cafe will be open for the purchase of refreshments.
