The Hippodrome Silent Film Festival celebrates the new roaring twenties - in 2020!
The Hippodrome Cinema, Bo’ness is among 10 community groups from across Scotland to receive new funding to transform the local cinema going experience. From Hawick to Peebles, local cinemas have been awarded a total of £318,058 through Screen Scotland’s Cinema Equipment Fund.

Saturday 21 March will see the return of The Dodge Brothers to Bo’ness to accompany the 1930 silent film ‘City Girl’ screening during the Hippodrome Silent Film Festival. Followed by a one-off music gig on Sunday 22 March in the capital’s favourite music venue The Queen’s Hall.
Scotland's oldest purpose-built picture house has been shortlisted for Cinema of the Year (for a company with 24 screens or under) in the 2019 Screen Awards.

Speaker Gary Fry Lost pieces of art from the golden age of Hollywood have been rediscovered and are now in a new home, at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland, Glasgow. Six original backdrops from the early Metro Goldwyn Mayer film archive have generously been donated to the RCS Scenic Art department from the Art Directors Guild, Archive. These pieces were created by George Gibson, a Scot who trained in Glasgow before moving to Hollywood in the early 20th century to pioneer the new art form of painted film backdrops. Join us for a talk hosted by scenic art lecturer Gary Fry to find out more about how these iconic pieces of film history were created and used on the big screen.
